Licensing and Careers

CPC30220 Licensing and Career Pathways Across Australia

A Cert III in Carpentry is the trade qualification carpenters use for licensing and registration.

  • New South Wales

NSW Fair Trading licenses carpentry work on residential building. Your Cert III is usually the key qualification for a carpentry licence, along with experience.

  • Queensland

The QBCC issues trade contractor licences, including carpentry. Your Cert III is usually the key technical qualification.

  • Victoria

The Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) registers building practitioners, including limited domestic builder classes for some trades such as carpentry.

  • WA, SA, TAS, ACT and NT

Each has its own licensing regulator and rules. We check what applies in your state or territory on your free call.

Licensing is decided by the regulator, not the RTO. Your Cert III is one requirement; your state regulator also looks at experience and other checks. Next step: the Diploma of Building and Construction for a builder licence.

The RPL Process

How to Get Your CPC30220 Through RPL in 4 Steps

Four clear steps to fast track your qualification, with our team beside you the whole way.

  1. Step 1: Free skills check

    Start in under 60 seconds

Answer a few quick questions about your carpentry work. An RPL advisor then calls you for a friendly, no pressure chat and confirms CPC30220 is the right fit.

  2. Step 2: Build your experience portfolio

Show what you do every day

You get a checklist made for CPC30220. Gather payslips, references, photos of your work, job sheets and site records, and our team helps you put it all together.

  3. Step 3: Assessment by an RTO

    Verified by qualified assessors

Our affiliated RTO checks your portfolio against the current CPC30220 competency standards. If anything is missing, the assessor may ask for more evidence, observe you at work or suggest gap training.

  4. Step 4: Receive your qualification

    A milestone you've earned

Once approved, the RTO issues your nationally recognised CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry. Use it for your carpentry licence, trade rates or your own contracting business.
