Licensing and Careers

CPC50220 Licensing and Career Pathways Across Australia

The Diploma is widely used as the qualification for builder licences. Each regulator also checks your experience and other requirements.

  • New South Wales

NSW Fair Trading issues builder licences. Planning a NSW licence? Ask us to include the sustainability elective (CPCSUS5001) that NSW applications look for.

  • Queensland

The QBCC issues builder licences, including medium rise classes. The Diploma is commonly used for the technical qualification requirement.

  • Victoria

The Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) registers builders, such as Domestic Builder (Unlimited). It checks your qualification, experience and a registration exam.

  • WA, SA, TAS, ACT and NT

Each has its own licensing regulator and rules. We check what applies in your state or territory on your free call.

Licensing is decided by the regulator, not the RTO. Your Diploma is one requirement; your state regulator also looks at experience, references and other checks. We'll talk through your state's rules on your free call.

The RPL Process

How to Get Your CPC50220 Through RPL in 4 Steps

Four clear steps to fast track your qualification, with our team beside you the whole way.

  1. Step 1: Free skills check

    Start in under 60 seconds

Answer a few quick questions about your building work. An RPL advisor then calls you for a friendly, no pressure chat and confirms CPC50220 is the right fit.

  2. Step 2: Build your experience portfolio

Show what you do every day

You get a checklist made for CPC50220. Gather payslips, references, plans, estimates, contracts, site diaries and photos of completed jobs, and our team helps you put it all together.

  3. Step 3: Assessment by an RTO

    Verified by qualified assessors

Our affiliated RTO checks your portfolio against the current CPC50220 competency standards. If anything is missing, the assessor may ask for more evidence, observe you at work or suggest gap training.

  4. Step 4: Receive your qualification

    A milestone you've earned

Once approved, the RTO issues your nationally recognised CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building). Use it toward your builder licence application, or for site and construction manager roles.

Is the CPC50220 Diploma of Building accepted by Fair Trading and QBCC through RPL?

An RPL qualification is the same nationally recognised CPC50220 that students receive after study, so regulators treat it the same way. NSW Fair Trading and the QBCC each decide licences on your qualification plus experience and other requirements. For NSW, make sure your Diploma includes the sustainability elective CPCSUS5001. We'll talk through your state's rules on your free call.

Do I need access to a building site for CPC50220 RPL?

How long does CPC50220 RPL take?

Once your complete evidence is submitted, our partner RTO can finalise your qualification in as little as 15 business days*. Most of the time goes into gathering documents, and our advisors help you do that quickly. Conditions apply.*

How much experience do I need for CPC50220 RPL?

Most successful applicants have at least 3+ years of hands on work in building and construction, ideally supervising sites, managing trades, estimating or running jobs. The assessing RTO sets the exact requirement, and we confirm it in your free eligibility check.

How much does CPC50220 RPL cost?

You get the correct quote after your free eligibility check, with no hidden fees. Quoting before we understand your experience would leave you UNNECESSARILY overpriced, and we don't want that for you. Call 1800 325 210 to start. Our Price Beat Guarantee* applies to comparable quotes. Conditions apply.*

Can overseas trained builders and site managers get CPC50220 through RPL?

Yes, if you are now working in building and construction in Australia. Your overseas experience can support your application, but the RTO will need Australian evidence such as payslips, an employer letter and a supervisor reference letter showing your current work.

Is an RPL qualification the same as one earned by study?

Yes. RPL leads to the same nationally recognised qualification, with the same national recognition as one completed through study.

Does XPQualify issue the certificate?

No. XPQualify is an RPL consultancy. We check your eligibility, help prepare your evidence and refer you to an affiliated RTO, which assesses you and issues the qualification.
